Youth for Human Rights Switzerland and United for Human Rights announced its participation in Geneva’s Fête de la Musique on 24 and 25 June, combining the atmosphere of the city-wide celebration with public education about the 30 rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The aim was especially to reach young people and present human rights in an approachable, participatory way.
Learning through participation
Visitors were invited to contribute to an expression wall about what human rights mean to them and to take part in a light-hearted competition designed to make learning engaging.
The activity also took place during the year of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, offering a timely reminder that the Declaration remains relevant only when people know its principles and apply them in daily life.
Bringing human-rights education into a public cultural event helps make the subject visible outside formal classrooms and creates opportunities for conversation across generations.
