Youth for Human Rights Switzerland and United for Human Rights held an information stand at Geneva Cornavin station to help the public learn about the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and their practical importance.
More than 500 booklets, leaflets and educational materials were distributed, giving visitors an opportunity to discuss the rights contained in the Declaration and the role each person can play in making them better known.
Knowledge helps protect rights
Human-rights education is particularly important for young people, who will become tomorrow’s community leaders. Understanding fundamental rights can make it easier to recognise violations, respect the rights of others and participate constructively in society.
The UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration on 10 December 1948 and called for it to be disseminated and explained, particularly in schools and educational institutions. The association supports that objective through multilingual educational materials, workshops, short training sessions and an interactive online course.
